The St. Luke’s House Mental Health Clinic initiated services on April 19, 1997, fulfilling a long awaited organizational vision of being able to offer an integrated and comprehensive array of services to clients. This integration of the “treatment” and “rehabilitation” staff teams is designed to achieve a highly coordinated and clinically balanced treatment planning process—one in which the treatment and rehabilitation plans will incorporate the range of expertise offered by the psychosocial, rehabilitation and medical models of treatment. Functioning under a unified philosophy of treatment along with a high customer service orientation, the Mental Health Clinic has greatly expanded in the past few years.

The first St. Luke’s House Mental Health Clinic is located at the Southport Center location. In order to increase convenience to consumers and to serve more people, the second Clinic opened in 1999 in Silver Spring. In addition to serving clients of the St. Luke’s House Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program, the clinic offers services to members of the community. Group, couples, and individual counseling and therapy, case management and psychopharmacology are offered. In keeping with increased focus on enhanced capabilities to work with consumers who have co-occurring disorders (e.g., substance abuse and mental illness), the clinic now offers several groups specifically targeted to these unique needs. In 2004, the clinic received a grant for Evidence Based Practice in Family Psycho-education, a proven intervention for consumers and families coping with schizophrenia. The first multi-family group, using a specific educational and problem-solving technique, is now operating. Finally, the clinic is also supporting research being conducted by Gabriel Pharma, LLP and investigating genetic markers for drug responses in persons with schizophrenia.

Intake: Clinic intakes are performed by Clinic staff via the Intake Department at 301 493-4200, ext. 234.
