The St. Luke’s House Residential Program provides therapeutic settings in a supportive residential community. Programs are developed according to client need and choices. There are different kinds and degrees of support offered by the staff. Residential staff members offer on site counseling, help clients develop and accomplish goals, and assist them in dealing with the pressures and challenges of daily life.
The residential program has a continuum of living arrangement options ranging from 24 hour onsite staff coverage in some intensive residential sites to three–four times a week, drop-in support in some of the general residential sites. Participation outside of the residences through regular employment, volunteer work, education or day treatment promotes residents’ integration into the larger community. The residential program at St. Luke’s House include:
- General Residential Program in seventeen apartments, group homes and townhouses throughout the county serving a total of fifty-two residents. All residential programs are structured to provide daily support to individuals who may need medication monitoring or other targeted services.
- Southport Residential Program with three contiguous houses and provides 24-hour care to eight residents.
- Germantown Cluster is a new model based on the Southport service model. Unlike Southport, the five houses are scattered throughout a neighborhood. Residents at four of the five houses receive 40 – 50 hours daytime care on site. The fifth site has 24-hour staff availability and staff is deployed to the other four houses on the basis of client need. The Germantown cluster serves a total of 16 individuals.
- Arcola, Parkwood, Houston Court and University House are traditional group homes and provide intensive level services to five to eight individuals depending upon the size of the facility. They serve a total of twenty-seven individuals and provide between approximately 70 and 110 hours of onsite services to consumers based upon program model and client need.
Several of the intensive level programs were developed in response to state census reduction initiatives at Springfield Hospital Center. St. Luke’s House has always been a partner with the State of Maryland in providing innovative community programs to consumers of mental health services. All residential programs have the capacity for on site staff response 24-hours every day and pager systems are in place to contact on call direct service staff and supervisors.
The residential programs provide integrated services and all residential clients are eligible to participate in our Life Skills and Back to Work Programs. Increasing numbers of people are choosing to receive their outpatient mental health services through the St. Luke’s House Clinic. The residential program provides therapists who are members of the residential teams as well as clinic team members.
Intake: St. Luke’s House offers a limited amount of housing. Application for this service can be made by contacting the Intake Department at 301 493-4200, ext. 234. The call may be made by the applicant, family member, or involved professional. It is generally more effective if the call is made by someone able to provide clinical information about the applicant.
